9 Lessons Your Parents Teach You About Double Pushchair

Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around in the lightweight double pushchair especially if you have kids with different age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down steps.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopy, and windows that peek out. It also comes with a frame that expands in size to accommodate an additional car seat or another passenger.

Side-by-Side

The majority of light  double pushchair s we test are side-byside models and are best suited for children that can sit up on their own, as these models tend to lack car seat integration. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They come with an recline adjustments for both seats, a large canopy, and padded 5-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprints and are great for parents who are worried about fitting into doorways.

The Cybex Duet is a little different because its clever frame extends its width to create an additional seat, which makes it lighter than most other side-by-side pushchairs available. It can be pushed through doors that are standard and is easy to move around on public transport. It can also be used as a jogger, which is great when you're planning to use it with a baby carrier or infant car seat. It's available in a variety of exciting colors.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double. It offers additional flexibility due to the modular frame. It has a smart design that allows you to transform it into a single stroller or a double by adding 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even accommodate twins). It's a fantastic and practical choice for families with growing children and the UPPAbaby makes one of the lightest and most stylish umbrella strollers available.

Try the egg2 which folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding two carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers loved how sleek and simple it was to carry even when stuffed with kids.

Side-by-side pushchairs that are lightweight aren't foolproof, though -when your children are the same age or stage they might still argue over who gets to ride in which seat. And if they're taller than each other, a tandem style might be better for them, as it allows them to confront each other.

Tandem

While side-byside models are better for children of the same age, tandem lightweight  double stroller s have their own appeal. They can take a bigger car seat, and some have reversible seats or an extra carrycot in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easier to move into and out of, although their baskets tend to be smaller than those on single buggies. Many feature larger canopies as well as peekaboo windows, and even padded leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that is a great value. Its fabric feels a bit less luxurious than our other top-rated tandems, but it looks and feels great and is very user-friendly. One of the most striking things about it is its one-handed fold - although it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab said it's "genius". It's not possible to fold it with the carrycot attached, but the mechanism for attaching and removing it is easy and quick.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will generally have a more precise turning compared to side-by-side models. However, they could be harder to drive on uneven surfaces or curbs. They are also slower to accelerate and more heavy to move. This puts strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is a different alternative. It is initially an individual, but you can add adapters to convert it into a double. It can also include a second seat, carrycot or both in front. The children can be seated together. Some may have the option of adding a buggyboard, which helps an older child keep up with siblings who are younger.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. These cocoons provide an area that is flat for newborns. They can be positioned in a row or joined to one another and you can use them with the baby car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose a compatible one). These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of quality materials that can be used for many years without showing any wear. This means that they have the highest resale value.

Single-to-Double

This light  double buggy  is made for families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade from an individual-stroller. It can be converted into a jogger with kits that include air-filled tires and all-wheel suspension. It's also a great choice for twins, or children of different age groups, and as a triple tandem, it's able to handle rough terrain. It's an excellent choice for parents who want a chic design that is as elegant as a single. It comes in different fabric colours.

This iCandy model is incredibly easy to fold using a one-handed system. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's still very mobile even with two toddlers inside and a carrycot.

The seat can be used with the parent facing and you can buy add-ons for this stroller such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) which are great for newborns. The seats are comfortable for toddlers and come with good headrests and lumbar support. There are numerous options to recline the seats with the front seat adjustable in various positions and the back seat also having a reclining option.

The biggest drawback of this type of buggy is that it's generally larger overall than the side-by-side doubles which makes it more difficult to get through doorways and can be tricky to maneuver up and down kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension on these models generally do a good job of dealing with pavements and the fact that they're significantly lighter than the side-by-sides, means you still find plenty of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that these strollers aren't as good at walking through the narrow aisles of supermarkets and can struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. It's a bit easier to turn around on the smallest of curved paths but even this can be difficult. Some are also easier to turn than others, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for instance.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are great because they are able to be adapted to the changing requirements of a family. They typically start as single buggies, and come with adapters to add a second seat, carrycot or (in some instances) a car seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single when your older child starts to walk or prefers to ride buggyboards.

One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model can carry children up to 40 lbs each. It also has a convenient basket that can be placed between the seats for storage. Home testers appreciated its spacious canopy with peekaboo windows with multi-position reclining seats as well as front and rear suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain. It also comes with a handy parent cup holder and a large, easy-to-access basket. They also noted that the backs have tiny pockets, that are just large enough to hold a phone and a set of keys.

This premium, lightweight side-by-side can be used in more than 20 configurations and comes with a second seat and carrycot. Its impressive features include a handlebar with a high-profile design for easier steering and a rear and front suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold that has straps for easy schlepping and seven-inch swing lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you will need to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.

This multi-functional tandem is a popular choice by our home testers due to its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that can be accessed with both seats facing the parent. It is simple to maneuver thanks to its low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Many users praise the clever method of attaching the second seat or riding board to the back. Parents also liked the fact that it can accommodate infant car seats and carriers from multiple brands, including those which aren't usually fit in other double buggies.
